– visited August 2014 –

As I reach Panama, time is short. My flight home is booked and I only have one month to reach New York and I want to visit all the countries in between. I arrive by boat from Colombia, the Darién Gap (the isthmus where Central America meets South America) is a very remote region and there is no road connecting Panama with its southern neighbour. Puerto Olbadia is the first town; it does not have a road connection either so the question is to take the speedboat or the plane to reach the more populated parts of Panama. I take the plane. After a day in Panama City and a visit to the Panama Canal, I head on to Bocas del Toro, a beautiful island in the northwest of Panama. After a day there, I cross to Costa Rica.
